Molise: The Hidden Gem | 4K Vertical Cinema for Expo 2025 Osaka
Director, Cinematographer & Post-Production Lead
Synopsis
Created for Expo 2025 Osaka, this project marks my debut in 4K Vertical Filmmaking on a global scale. The film is a visual journey through the archaeological treasures and historical heritage of Molise, one of Italy’s most authentic and untouched regions. Designed to represent Italian excellence in Japan, the project combines high-end cinematography with a modern vertical format.
From Cinema to Social: The Campaign
Beyond the main film for the Expo, I supervised and executed the entire digital strategy, re-editing and optimizing the footage into a 20-episode Instagram Reel campaign. This process involved a complete rethink of the narrative pacing, sound design, and visual hooks to transform a cinematic documentary into high-performance short-form content.
Creative & Technical Challenges
The Vertical Challenge: Composing shots for a 9:16 aspect ratio while maintaining a "cinematic" feel worthy of an International Expo.
4K Mastery: Handling high-resolution 4K vertical footage to ensure breathtaking detail on both large-scale Expo screens and mobile devices.
Modular Storytelling: Designing the main edit so that it could be "deconstructed" into 20 standalone stories without losing the core message and aesthetic quality.
Solution / Approach
I approached the Molise landscape and its ruins as "monumental characters." Using a mix of sweeping vertical pans and intimate detail shots, I created a visual rhythm that bridge the gap between ancient history and contemporary digital consumption. In the post-production phase, I led the coordination of sound and color to ensure that the transition from the "Expo Cut" to the "Social Reels" was seamless and impactful.
